Value’Her is an innovative program that uses digital technology to support the prevention and reporting of gender-based violence (GBV), implemented in the departments of Alibori, Atacora, and Borgou in northern Benin. Implemented by Women EdTech, this project is co-funded as part of the “Feminists in Action” project, led by CARE Benin/Togo and funded by the French Development Agency (AFD).
- Educate and raise public awareness about the causes and consequences of gender-based violence in vulnerable areas, schools, universities, and among communities in their local languages;
- Prevent and report gender-based violence using a database of images and digital content via the www.valueher.bj platform
Encourage young people to actively participate in creating content aimed at prevention and reporting; - Increase the project's visibility and awareness among the public, organizations, and local authorities
- Phase 1 in Parakou: Two sessions held from July 26 to 29, involving 75 young activists, professionals, and members of civil society
A themed event on October 2, 2023, to mark the International Day of Non-Violence, bringing together more than 100 young people online; - Phase 2 in Kandi: Training for 35 students at the EPP SAKABOUKOUKINNI School (October 23–24, 2023), followed by a session with 40 young people from various backgrounds (October 25–26, 2023). Thematic Day on November 25, 2023, against violence against women in Bemberekè, bringing together more than 100 participants. 16 Days of Activism: An intensive social media campaign highlighting messages from young people and local stakeholders;
- Phase 3 in Natitingou is scheduled for February 2024
- Reducing barriers to accessing information on GBV in rural areas by overcoming language barriers;
- The www.valueher.bj platform, which is available 24 hours a day, receives about 50 reports per month;
- More than 2,500 pieces of content created and over 500 translated into local languages (Fon, Dendi, Bariba);
- Continuous broadcasts on community radio stations and via an integrated web radio service;
- More than 225 young people (150 girls and 75 boys) involved in co-creating content;
- Raising awareness among more than 10,000 people (elected officials, professionals, teachers, students, parents, etc.)
- Dedicated web platform (www.valueher.bj);
- Integrated web radio broadcasting 24 hours a day in local languageshttps://valueher.bj/webradio/;
- A repository of multimedia content created during participatory workshops;
- An accessible and secure online reporting system.
ValueHer perfectly illustrates how digital technology can be harnessed to support critical social causes, by bridging the gap between technological innovation and community engagement to effectively combat gender-based violence.
